Internet line slow

Internet connection been unstable since last wednesday, already ask all the vendors to check on the line, but they all are failed to get me the problem root cause. Sigh~~

I been scolding by my boss because of the internet access speed, but I cannot do more on it just because this is internet line not internal problem. The other thing is I am a so called system analyst in this company, and now I need to take care of so much of thing. Sigh~~

I don’t know how long I am going to suffer, I hope telecom people can speed up the progress and solve my problem before my boss frustrated with the line again.

SQL Server Data Replication

I am doing research about SQL Server Data Replication since last week. I have a project which requires replicating selected data of selected tables from 1 sql server to another.

The SQL Server that I am using is SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition. And of course it doesn’t come with Replication feature. The Replication feature only comes with Enterprise Edition, but of course the cost of edition upgrade is definitely gonna be pricey.

The other alternative that I came across with is Redgate’s SQL Data Compare software. SQL Data Compare is used for automating data migrations, analyze corrupted data, restoring row-level data from backups and compiling audit trails of missing or changed data. It is very cost effective, as it costs only about 400 – 600 USD per license.

Of course, I will still need to do a comparison for both softwares mentioned above. But I am really tempted with Redgate :)

Or anyone out there has better suggestions? Recommendation is most welcomed here. Cheers!!

Vista Or XP?

I am currently hacking my head to decide whether want to switch to Vista or still stick with XP.
Just because all the while I been using XP. I found out that XP is actually easy to use. And Vista is not so stable for implement some application, I tried Vista from my Virtual PC. Actually I found out that some of the components that I develop with Windows XP are actually not compatible with Windows Vista.

But from day to day, Microsoft been research and develop more and more application for Vista. That makes me confuse to whether stick with vista or XP.

If you have the same concern with me, please share with me your finding.

Corporation size you prefer

Friends of mine always talk about this issue. Some really prefer to work for large companies; some however prefer to work for smaller businesses.

Let’s discuss it here. For those who claim large companies to be good to work for is because large corporations have its large amounts of plus points, like health care and multiple arrangements of benefits. Some even provide you education advancement. And the environment provided some how is of course better than small business companies.
My friends who prefer working for larger corporations even highlighted that the disadvantages of working for small companies. They claim that smaller businesses have all to worry about P&L (profit and loss). Keeping the cost low is always the priority than making a good run of Research and Development.

Some would prefer smaller companies because the opportunity to blossom is better. A person can grow if he/she really performs. They even claimed that are more learning opportunities in small companies as they are required to know everything.

Ubuntu 7.10

Just received a notification that Ubuntu 7.10 already released.
According to DesktopLinux:
The Gutsy Gibbon Ubuntu 7.10 Desktop Edition includes improvements in advanced plug-and-play printing, enhanced browsing and the option of a smooth new user interface built on top of the new GNOME 2.20 desktop
The distribution also comes with greatly improved and easier-to-maintain security. This comes to Ubuntu thanks to AppArmor. Shuttleworth describes this as the second generation of Linux security.

Ubuntu installed on Virtual PC 2007

It's good to try out new thing, I been trying to install Ubuntu at my virtual PC 2007. Finally I got it.

what is Ubuntu? Ubuntu is a community developed, linux-based operating system that is perfect for laptops, desktops and servers. It contains all the applications you need - a web browser, presentation, document and spreadsheet software, instant messaging and much more. and Ubuntu is free software.

Actually during my first attempted, the graphic is messing up with return of the error message” your graphics are messed up”. After tried, I googling around for the solution. I got some sites ask me to select the second option to boot into ubuntu.

Immediately, I boot to the first screen again, and selected the 2nd option (safe graphics mode). I can actually boot into the desktop. Unfortunately, the mouse cursor is not working. Then I googling for another time.

This Post is about workaround the mouse issue with enable Ubuntu using keyboard control to move the mouse cursor. That's cool, I keep searching for the permanent solution and finally I got it. I found out this postto enable to the mouse working on the ubuntu.

Thank for some information sharing, I am now enjoying my own ubuntu OS on Virtual PC 2007.

Today is the last day before raya and also the last day for fasting month. Tomorrow, we will celebrating Hari Raya's holiday. My mood is changing and showing the "Raya" mood today.

Man Utd finally hit the goal trail

It’s good to see Man Utd back on fire, and back to top of the table. I know some people just think that they will stay for a night, but it doesn’t matter as they are back to scoring goals.

Started with the struggling session, Man Utd is back on track to defending their champions.
Unfortunately, they are now having a injury blow. Having Louis Saha was out with a knee injury during warm up, and Vidic and O’shea out from the match after an injury of the half time.

I think Ferguson needs some new idea, and some new face to form the team and travel to Aston Villa next week, as Aston Villa just won 1-0 against West Ham United.

So, It was a happy night for me, Cheers~~~ all Man Utd’s Fans.

Sleepless night

It is 1:18 AM now, I am still awake and facing this PC. Just wonder can wait until 2:30AM for the Champions league game or not.

But too bad, I don't have astro at home and not able to watch it at home. Last session is better as some free TV station got buy the right to show some of the matches. This Session still no news from them. I think they give up on the Champions League matches.

I think I gotta sleep soon, as tomorrow I need to wake up and work again.

Second generation of Zune

Today is the day that Microsoft is going to launch the second generation of the Zune music Player.

According to source, the main part of the announcement is the player will include the first flash memory based. By included the flash memory, the players will measure 3-inches by 1.25-inches and are said to look much like the iPod nano.

The smaller Zunes will be video capable, and are rumored to include Wi-Fi and higher storage than competing products.
